Turkey's TF Kaan Fighter Prototype P1 Advances with Powered Taxi Tests

Turkish Aerospace has released footage of the second prototype, P1, of its TF Kaan fighter conducting powered taxi tests, marking a significant milestone in its flight-test campaign. This development indicates that the maiden flight of the aircraft is approaching, following the first prototype, P0, which completed its inaugural flight in February 2024.

The P1 prototype is designed to be a more representative development aircraft compared to P0 and is expected to play a crucial role in the fighter's development program as Turkey aims for production later this decade. The powered taxi tests confirm the operational status of critical systems, including engine performance and flight controls, as the aircraft prepares for its first flight.

Looking ahead, Turkish Aerospace anticipates P1's maiden flight within the next couple of months, with a third prototype, P2, also under assembly. The company aims to have both prototypes flying by the end of the year, which would expedite the flight-test campaign. Initial deliveries to the Turkish Air Force are targeted for 2028, reflecting an ambitious timeline for the Kaan program.

Editor's Note

The development of the TF Kaan fighter prototype highlights Turkey's commitment to advancing its military aviation capabilities. As the country seeks to enhance its defense industry, the successful transition from technology demonstrators to developmental test fleets is crucial. The ambitious timeline for initial deliveries underscores the competitive landscape in military aviation, where rapid advancements are essential for national security.
