Galbot Unveils PASSAGE Framework for Humanoids to Navigate Obstacles Effectively

Galbot has introduced PASSAGE, a research framework designed to enhance humanoid robots' navigation capabilities. This innovative system allows robots to step over, duck under, and squeeze through obstacles by determining which body parts need to move to avoid collisions. The framework combines a planner that generates movement sequences with a controller that executes them, adapting to the robot's environment.
The significance of PASSAGE lies in its ability to improve humanoid mobility in complex environments, as demonstrated by the system's performance in simulated trials. In 750 trials across 150 unique scenes, the model successfully reached its destination 98.67% of the time, while a stricter requirement of avoiding obstacles reduced this success rate to 70.3%. These results highlight the potential for advanced navigation strategies in robotics, which could lead to more versatile applications in real-world scenarios.
Looking ahead, the research team conducted physical tests using a Unitree G1 robot, achieving successful navigation in 50 new layouts without falls or safety interventions. However, these results are preliminary and do not confirm reliability for broader deployment. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
