NVIDIA has unveiled NVIDIA Halos for Robotics, a full-stack safety architecture aimed at enhancing the safety of humanoid robots. Agility Robotics, known for its bipedal robot Digit, is the first to integrate this platform, addressing the critical need for robots to work safely alongside humans without physical barriers.
This partnership is significant as it responds to the growing scrutiny in the robotics sector regarding safety standards and compliance. With organizations like IEEE working on humanoid standards, NVIDIA's Halos system seeks to provide a certifiable foundation built on extensive experience from its autonomous vehicle programs, which include over 18,000 engineering years of safety development.
Looking ahead, Agility Robotics plans to deploy its fifth-generation Digit model, designed for cooperative safety, by late 2026. This model will utilize the NVIDIA IGX Thor platform for human detection and will have a lift capacity aligned with OSHA's guidelines. The company is also preparing for a new funding round to support the scaling of these advanced humanoids.
Editor's Note
The collaboration between NVIDIA and Agility Robotics highlights a pivotal shift in the robotics industry towards prioritizing safety and compliance in humanoid robot deployment. As the sector faces increasing regulatory scrutiny, the integration of robust safety systems like Halos is essential for fostering trust and acceptance in industrial environments. This move could significantly influence the future landscape of humanoid robotics in various applications.
