Developer of Joule Printing metal additive manufacturing technology, now defunct.
Digital Alloys was a Burlington, Massachusetts-based metal additive manufacturing startup founded in January 2017 as a spinout from NVLabs (New Valence Robotics). The company developed a proprietary Joule Printing process — a high-speed, multi-metal 3D printing method using wire-form feedstock and joule heating to melt metal, offering faster print speeds and lower material costs compared to powder-bed systems. Backed by investors including Khosla Ventures, G20 Ventures, Boeing HorizonX, and Lincoln Electric, Digital Alloys raised approximately $17.9 million.
Despite promising technology and multiple patents, the company was unable to successfully commercialize its products and permanently ceased operations in July 2021.
