Xiaopeng Robotics Secures $900 Million Funding, Achieving $6.3 Billion Valuation

On August 24, Xiaopeng Motors announced that its humanoid robotics division, Pengxing, has completed its first equity financing round, raising over $900 million and achieving a post-money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion. This funding round sets a new record for single-round private equity financing in China's embodied intelligence sector.

The significance of this funding lies in its potential to enhance Xiaopeng's robotics capabilities, with the raised capital earmarked for software and hardware development, AI model training, data collection, and production facility construction. Following the financing, Xiaopeng will maintain a controlling stake of approximately 81.97% in Pengxing, ensuring that the robotics business remains consolidated within the group’s financial statements.

Looking ahead, Xiaopeng's humanoid robot, IRON, is slated to enter mass production by the end of 2026, with initial applications in Xiaopeng stores and parks. The company aims for a formal market launch in 2027, targeting both domestic and international markets. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The substantial funding secured by Xiaopeng Robotics highlights the growing interest and investment in humanoid robotics within the industry. As companies seek to innovate and expand their technological capabilities, the focus on specialized capital for robotics, distinct from traditional automotive investments, may reshape the competitive landscape. The involvement of major strategic investors like Tencent and Alibaba could further enhance the application and market reach of Xiaopeng's robotics initiatives.
