Thyssenkrupp Automotive Systems France has automated a complex screw driving operation at its Herrlisheim site, utilizing two UR30-1300 collaborative robots from Universal Robots. This solution, developed with RobotIndus, incorporates 3D vision guidance technology from Inbolt, enabling the cobots to operate on engines suspended from a moving conveyor without halting production.
The automation addresses ergonomic challenges faced by operators who previously performed the task manually, often leading to physical strain. The new system can handle six different engine variants with a non-conformance rate of less than 1%, showcasing significant improvements in efficiency and precision.
Thyssenkrupp plans to expand the installation from two to four robots following the successful initial deployment. The integration of Universal Robots' cobots with Inbolt's 3D vision technology allows for precise screw driving on continuously moving parts, adapting to their oscillations and varying positions throughout the process.
