Live Outdoor Demonstration of Autonomous Robots Completing Barbecue Tasks

The embodied intelligence industry is experiencing a 'false prosperity' with frequent demonstrations of robots performing tasks like folding clothes and serving coffee. However, these demos often mask failures and rely on pre-programmed actions or remote control, raising questions about their authenticity. In contrast, LeXiang Technology recently showcased its Ether large model in a live outdoor event, allowing real-time interaction and interruptions from the audience.

On September 16, two robots equipped with the Ether model autonomously completed a barbecue task without human intervention. They managed the entire process from taking orders to cooking and serving, while also adapting to unexpected changes from guests. Despite some errors, the live format highlighted the challenges of real-world applications, emphasizing the importance of transparency in robotic capabilities.

This demonstration serves as a critical test of the robots' ability to learn and adapt in real-time, rather than just showcasing perfect outcomes. As the industry continues to evolve, the focus on genuine performance under varied conditions will be essential for advancing autonomous technologies.

Editor's Note

The robotics industry is increasingly scrutinizing the authenticity of demonstrations, as many rely on scripted actions or controlled environments. LeXiang Technology's approach to live demonstrations without edits or pre-set scripts provides a refreshing perspective on the capabilities of autonomous systems. This shift towards transparency may influence future developments and expectations in robotic applications.
