On September 18, during the 2026 Tianjin Auto Forum, Changan Automobile's Chief Expert and General Manager of Changan Tian Shu Intelligent Robotics, Tan Huan, delivered a keynote speech. He proposed that automobiles will evolve into embodied intelligent robotic systems, utilizing automotive engineering to empower the robotics industry and create a comprehensive mobility ecosystem.
Tan emphasized that future smart vehicles will transform into self-learning, self-organizing, and self-evolving automotive robotic systems. Changan's approach includes a dual-driven model of knowledge and rules for data processing, which guides data collection and iteratively refines knowledge rules. This methodology aims to transfer the automotive industry's standard operating procedures and quality control concepts to robotics, addressing consistency issues from prototype to mass production.
Changan's strategy includes developing humanoid robots to enhance the automotive ecosystem, promoting modular components for vehicle cabins, and extending applications to logistics, energy replenishment, inspection, and security. The ultimate goal is to integrate robotics into vehicle manufacturing and sales, with a vision for large-scale human-robot coexistence by 2046. The success of this initiative will depend on Changan's ability to merge automotive quality control methods with unique robotics technology challenges.
Editor's Note
Changan Automobile's entry into the robotics sector highlights a significant trend of cross-industry innovation, where established automotive manufacturing practices are applied to robotics. This approach could reshape supply chains and manufacturing processes in both sectors, although challenges remain in developing effective algorithms and data systems for embodied intelligence.
