Ambrosia Energy has commenced construction on a battery factory in Austin, Texas, aimed at supporting its solar-powered plants for data centers. The facility, spanning 150,000 square feet, is expected to produce 10 gigawatt-hours of batteries, with full production anticipated in two to three years. CEO Ben Longmier announced this initiative at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.
This development is significant as it positions Ambrosia to deliver continuous electricity at a competitive rate of $100 per megawatt-hour, utilizing solar energy during the day to power customers and store energy for nighttime use. Longmier highlighted that this approach enables the construction of approximately 300 megawatt power plants annually, emphasizing the efficiency of solar paired with battery storage.
Looking ahead, Ambrosia is also set to begin its first commercial power plant in West Texas, which will integrate 300 megawatts of solar panels with 660 megawatt-hours of battery storage. This project aims for a continuous power output of 30 megawatts and a target uptime of 99.3%. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
