Company Overview

6K Energy is the battery-materials division of 6K Inc., a materials company founded in 2014 and headquartered at 25 Commerce Way, North Andover, Massachusetts, USA. The division produces domestic, sustainable lithium-ion battery cathode active material (CAM) using 6K's proprietary UniMelt microwave-plasma technology, a continuous, closed-loop process that the company says collapses production time by roughly 95% (from days to hours) versus conventional co-precipitation. UniMelt can make almost any lithium-ion cathode chemistry, including NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) and LFP (lithium iron phosphate), as well as LLZO, LMO, LTO and LNMO materials. 6K Energy reports the process generates zero liquid and solid waste, uses up to 90% less water, cuts greenhouse-gas emissions by up to 70%, and lowers conversion cost by 50-60% with a 50% smaller factory footprint and 20-30% lower capex.

Its flagship PlusCAM facility in Jackson, Tennessee is described as the world's first UniMelt plasma cathode plant, supporting domestic energy-storage, AI-infrastructure and defense supply chains using domestic and recycled feedstock. 6K Energy has signed agreements with multiple partners, including a joint development agreement with Our Next Energy (ONE) for Gemini and Aries batteries, an MOU with Atlas Materials, a partnership with Aqua Metals on sustainable lithium-battery materials, and a planned recycling joint venture with Cirba Solutions. The division raised capital as part of 6K's funding, including an $82 million close in 2024. Contact for 6K Energy is [email protected], tel +1-978-488-1661, in North Andover, MA.

Unusual Machines, 6K Energy, CRG Defense, SES AI take steps to be NDAA compliant

Drone and battery cell manufacturers are adjusting their production practices in response to the Department of Defense's recent ban on acquiring batteries for weapons and support systems that contain materials sourced from foreign entities deemed a security risk. This decision, aimed at enhancing national security, reflects growing concerns over reliance on foreign supply chains for critical military components. The alignment of these companies with the new regulations is expected to take place immediately, as they work to ensure compliance and maintain their contracts with the government. By sourcing materials domestically or from trusted allies, these manufacturers aim to mitigate potential vulnerabilities and bolster the integrity of defense operations.
