Krefeld agtech firm spun out of FH Aachen's MASKOR institute, developing the ETAROB field robot and the solar-powered DAVEGI vegetable farming system.
AI.Land is a German agricultural technology company working on robotics, automation and AI for vegetable production. Its website is operated by Landhouz GmbH (formerly AI.Land GmbH), registered at Amtsgericht Krefeld under HRB 18136, with its address at Vorderorbroich 35, 47839 Krefeld. The managing director is Dr.-Ing. Josef Franko. The company was initiated in 2020 and grew out of the MASKOR Institute for Mobile Autonomous Systems and Cognitive Robotics at Aachen University of Applied Sciences (FH Aachen). Its work centres on bringing automation into practical organic farming.
The company organises its work into four areas: automation (special machinery and plant engineering), robotics (tillage, cultivation, plant protection and harvesting), AI (plant phenotyping and scoring) and land (farm management, field cataloguing and data management).
ETAROB is a multi-purpose field robot for vegetable growing. Development started at FH Aachen in 2016, and a second generation was shown at Agritechnica 2019. It follows a spot-farming approach, tending each plant individually so mixed crops can share one plot. It uses interchangeable tools from soil preparation through sowing to harvest and navigates by combining GPS, visual odometry, an IMU and a compass. An ERP system tracks each plant using climate, soil-sensor and image data and links to a web shop for direct sales. A tillage tool is supported by a DBU grant and the harvesting tool by an ERDF grant. The company expected EU certification for unattended autonomous operation in 2026.
DAVEGI is a stationary, solar-powered field system. A 25 m rotating traverse moves over a circular 2,500 m2 field around a central base station supplying water and energy. A torso with two arms and hands tends 25,000 plants per cycle, and a second carriage carries a soil auger and irrigation. The plan is four cycles, or 100,000 plants, per year. Arm control is trained through teleoperation to generate data for vision-language-action models. The farm management stack uses Odoo and ROS. The company names kohlrabi, lettuce, pumpkin and courgette as crops and reports funding from Gruene Gruendung.NRW. The Vegetable Harvesting Module is a selective harvesting tool for multi-purpose field robots, designed for iceberg lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower and celery.
