The Japanese confectionery manufacturer Juchheim has introduced an AI cooking robot named Theo, which is revolutionizing the traditional method of making Japanese ring cakes. By utilizing cameras and image sensors, Theo learns the baking techniques from skilled artisans, mastering new skills in just days and autonomously determining optimal cooking conditions.
This innovation is particularly significant as Japan faces a severe labor shortage in the food service industry, with a job-to-applicant ratio of 2.31 reported in February 2023. Juchheim's president, Hideo Kawamoto, stated that Theo will greatly assist the industry in overcoming the challenges posed by a dwindling workforce.
