EVENT OVERVIEW

HRI 2027 is the 22nd ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction. It takes place March 8–12, 2027 in Santa Clara, California, in Silicon Valley. The conference is in-person only. The specific venue has not been published. HRI is jointly run by ACM and IEEE; ACM SIGCHI lists SIGCHI, SIGAI and IEEE as sponsors. The general co-chairs are Dylan Glas of Amazon Lab126 and Henny Admoni of Carnegie Mellon University. Local arrangements include Andra Keay of Silicon Valley Robotics. The host city changes each year. HRI 2025 was held in Melbourne and HRI 2026 in Edinburgh. The 2027 edition returns to the United States. The organizers have not published attendance figures, but they offer 13 exhibit booths to partners.

The 2027 theme is "Innovative HRI". Full papers go through five tracks: Theory and Methods, Design, Technical, Systems, and User Studies. Other formats include short contributions, alt.HRI, workshops and tutorials, videos and demos, late-breaking reports, the HRI Pioneers doctoral workshop and a Student Design Competition. New for 2027, industry white papers join the main program and appear in the open-access companion proceedings. The organizers say the program will include industry talks, panel discussions and a full Industry Day. Industry chairs are Mayumi Mohan (Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems) and Dan Grollman (Plus One Robotics). Keynote speakers have not been announced. Papers are published in the ACM Digital Library and IEEE Xplore.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • 22nd edition; in-person only, in Santa Clara (Silicon Valley)

  • Theme: "Innovative HRI"

  • Industry white papers move into the main program for 2027

  • Full Industry Day; $500 add-on ticket listed

  • Co-chaired by Amazon Lab126 and Carnegie Mellon researchers

RECOMMENDED ATTENDEES

HRI suits academic and industry researchers working on social robots, assistive and service robots, robot interfaces, and user studies. It is also useful for product and UX teams at robotics companies that deploy robots around people. Industry Day and the white paper track give companies a way to present deployment lessons without a full research paper. Investors and buyers looking for products will find less here; a trade show such as Automate is a better fit. Engineers focused on manipulation or autonomy hardware may prefer ICRA.
