Gambit Robotics is a New York City-based consumer technology company founded in the spring of 2025 by Eliot Horowitz (former co-founder and CTO of MongoDB) and Nicole Maffeo (former AI researcher at Google). The device targets novice and intermediate home cooks rather than professional chefs, with the goal of making consistently good results accessible to everyday users with minimal stress. Gambit is paired with a monthly subscription model, expected to be priced between $9 and $15 per month, with the hardware retailing at approximately $500.
Gambit Robotics launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the device and targeted Q3 2025 for initial consumer shipping. The company was built with technology infrastructure provided by Viam, the robotics platform, and operates from Manhattan, New York. The company's approach to physical AI positions it at the intersection of consumer electronics, robotics sensing, and large language models deployed in an edge hardware context.
