US Military Showcases Advanced Ship-Sinking Capabilities During Summer Naval Exercises

This summer, the US military demonstrated its enhanced ship-sinking capabilities during multinational exercises in the Pacific, including Exercise Valiant Shield and RIMPAC. Notably, a B-2 bomber launched an AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) at a decommissioned vessel, marking a significant advancement in stealthy long-range attacks.

The importance of these exercises lies in their role in showcasing the US military's commitment to counter-maritime operations, as emphasized by Gen. Kevin Schneider. The exercises involved collaboration with forces from Japan, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, enhancing joint operational proficiency in various domains.

Looking ahead, the use of advanced technologies like Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) during RIMPAC indicates a shift towards more complex, multi-domain operations. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The recent naval exercises highlight the growing emphasis on advanced maritime capabilities within the US military. As geopolitical tensions rise, the integration of unmanned systems and long-range strike capabilities could reshape naval warfare strategies and enhance collaborative defense efforts among allied nations.
