"Concentrez vous sur votre métier, nos robots assument les risques"
Nantes-based Roboplanet makes the Altiscan magnetic UT crawler and UT_Pole to inspect storage tanks, ship hulls and piping without scaffolding or rope access.
Roboplanet is a French designer and manufacturer of robots and instrumented tools for non-destructive testing (NDT) of steel structures, headquartered in Nantes. It was founded in Brest in 2000, two months after the Erika oil-tanker sinking, and initially built special machines for maritime inspection. From 2007 it won industrial contracts and expanded into petrochemicals and defense, particularly storage-tank NDT. The company lists maritime, nuclear, petrochemical, defense and aeronautics as its strategic sectors.
Its main product, Altiscan, is a magnetic crawler developed in 2013 with TotalEnergies (then TOTAL), Institut de Soudure and MISTRAS. It climbs steel tank shells, fixed roofs and ship hulls with 70 kg of magnetic adhesion, weighs 7 kg, performs A-scan and continuous B-scan ultrasonic thickness measurement with integrated water coupling at +/-0.15 mm precision, has a 30 m range, is rated IP67 and can inspect up to four full tanks per day. UT_Pole, launched in 2025, is a 2.5 kg telescopic ultrasonic pole with a standard 12 m reach (12-16 m) for thickness measurement from the ground on shells, roofs, stiffeners, hulls and pipe racks. The UT_Rover was also introduced in 2025. Inspections reference API 653, EEMUA 159, CODRES and DT94.
Beyond equipment sales, Roboplanet provides on-site inspection services with its robotics and NDT specialists and states it has inspected more than 2,500 tanks with zero accidents and avoided over one million hours of work at height. In 2019 it was selected by the French Agence de l'Innovation de Defense for an aircraft inspection robot and has carried out projects with the French Navy and Air Force. It obtained MASE certification from France Chimie in 2022 and announced European expansion in 2025. Organizations shown among its references include TotalEnergies, EDF, ArcelorMittal, BASF, Bureau Veritas, SGS, Mistras, APAVE and Chantiers de l'Atlantique.
