US companies aiming to access expanding European defense budgets are encountering a significant obstacle: Europe's preference for ITAR-free weaponry. Concerns over the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) have intensified, prompting European nations to seek greater autonomy in their defense procurement strategies. Honeywell Aerospace CEO Jim Currier highlighted this trend, emphasizing the EU's desire for more sovereign control over defense funding and technology.

This shift is crucial as skepticism regarding US-European relations grows, leading European partners to increasingly reject ITAR restrictions. Zone 5's chief strategy officer, Tom Kanewske, noted that potential European collaborators are now more inclined to avoid US weapons systems due to fears that ITAR could hinder their technological contributions.
