Company Overview

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Poway, California, operating as a subsidiary of the privately held General Atomics group.

GA-ASI builds remotely piloted aircraft including the MQ-1 Predator, MQ-9 Reaper (also called Predator B), MQ-1C Gray Eagle, the MQ-9B SkyGuardian and SeaGuardian variants, and the MQ-20 Avenger, a turbofan-powered unmanned combat air vehicle with internal weapons bays. The MQ-9A Reaper is a medium-altitude, long-endurance aircraft rated for more than 27 hours of flight at altitudes up to 50,000 feet while carrying munitions and sensor payloads. The company also develops ground control stations, synthetic aperture radar, electro-optic and infrared sensor payloads, and detect-and-avoid systems, and in 2021 unveiled the short-takeoff Mojave demonstrator aircraft; it is also developing an air-launched unmanned wingman aircraft for DARPA under the LongShot program.

GA-ASI aircraft are operated by the US Air Force, Navy, and Army and by allied nations for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions, with combined fleet flight hours exceeding nine million. The company was inducted into the San Diego Air and Space Museum's International Air and Space Hall of Fame in 2023. In April 2024 China imposed sanctions on GA-ASI over arms sales to Taiwan, and added the company to an export-control list in March 2025.
