NSF Allocates $90 Million to Establish Three New Technology Centers, Including Robotics Focus

The National Science Foundation (NSF) announced a $90 million investment over five years to establish three new Science and Technology Centers (STCs), with each center receiving $6 million annually. One center, the Center for Human and Robot Co-Adaptation, will be led by The University of Texas at Austin and aims to explore the interaction between humans and robots in various environments.

This investment is significant as it seeks to enhance American leadership in science and technology, bolster the STEM workforce, and promote innovation in fields such as AI and robotics. Brian Stone, acting NSF director, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships and skilled workforce in maintaining the U.S. position in global science and technology.

Looking ahead, the centers will have the opportunity to compete for an additional five years of funding after the initial period. The NSF's STC program has a history of fostering new fields of discovery and technological advancements, and the upcoming centers are expected to contribute to foundational research and the development of practical solutions for societal benefits.
