The Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Lab is UC Berkeley's flagship interdisciplinary AI and robotics research group, bringing together over 50 faculty and 300 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Key robotics faculty include Pieter Abbeel (robot learning, deep reinforcement learning), Ken Goldberg (robot grasping, Dex-Net, human-robot collaboration), and Trevor Darrell (computer vision, deep learning). BAIR research spans robot manipulation, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, foundation models for robot agents, computer vision, and natural language processing.
Abbeel co-founded Covariant (robot AI) out of BAIR. The lab regularly publishes at top venues and has produced widely adopted open-source frameworks including robosuite and rlpyt.
