Origin Secures $20 Million to Enhance Deployment of OG-1 Autonomous Construction Robots

Origin has announced it has raised $20 million in funding, co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, to scale its OG-1 robot, which autonomously performs drywall finishing tasks. The funding will be used to expand its fleet and support pilot projects in the U.S. and Europe, with plans to deploy 150 robots by the end of 2027.
The significance of this funding lies in addressing the persistent labor shortages in the construction industry, which have delayed projects for 42% of U.S. firms, according to a 2026 survey. Co-founder and CEO Yogesh Ghaturle emphasized that the demand for skilled labor is growing, and automation can help contractors manage project backlogs effectively.
Looking ahead, Origin aims to extend the capabilities of the OG-1 robot beyond wall finishing to include taping, drywall installation, drilling, and conduit installation. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
