At the end of September, market research firms Frost & Sullivan and IDC reported significant growth in the humanoid robot sector, with IDC noting nearly 25,000 units shipped globally in the first half of 2026, marking a 432.1% increase year-over-year. In contrast, Frost & Sullivan reported 36,000 units shipped, generating $540 million in revenue, surpassing the total revenue for 2025 within just six months.
Despite the surge in shipments, the financial performance of leading companies reveals challenges. UBTech, the top revenue earner, reported a loss of 339 million yuan in the first half of 2026, while Unitree Robotics, another major player, shipped over 5,500 units with a non-GAAP net margin of approximately 34.8%. The majority of shipments consisted of lower-priced models under $30,000, with full-size, capable machines remaining scarce.
Looking ahead, the industry faces a critical juncture as it scales up production but struggles with profitability. The full-size humanoid robots, which represent the most valuable segment, have yet to yield profitable outcomes for companies. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
