Boom Supersonic has announced the shipment of its first 14,000-pound turbine core, named Sprint Core, designed for both supersonic jets and natural gas power generation. This prototype will support the company’s Symphony jet engine and a 42-megawatt gas turbine, marking a significant advancement in their technology application.
The development of the Sprint Core is crucial as it represents Boom's initiative to leverage supersonic technology for electricity generation, addressing the increasing demand for power capacity. The prototype features advanced components, including a six-stage high-pressure compressor and hollow superalloy blades, which are engineered to endure extreme operating conditions.
Looking ahead, Boom plans to begin operations of the Sprint Core prototype by Thanksgiving. The company has also introduced a new $150 million manufacturing facility in Centennial, Colorado, which will enhance its production capabilities. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
