Crusoe, founded in Denver, Colorado in August 2018 by CEO Chase Lochmiller and President/COO Cully Cavness, is an AI infrastructure company built around what it calls an energy-first approach to data center development. The company's original business used stranded and flared natural gas at remote oil and gas wellsites, gas that would otherwise be burned off with no economic use, to power modular mobile computing units, initially for cryptocurrency mining and later repurposed toward GPU compute. That energy-arbitrage heritage, reflected in the company's original name, Crusoe Energy Systems, still shapes its current strategy of colocating AI data centers with cheap or otherwise-wasted power sources rather than building wherever grid capacity happens to be available. Today Crusoe's primary commercial offering is Crusoe Cloud, a GPU rental platform providing on-demand and reserved access to NVIDIA chips including the GB200, B200, H200, and H100, as well as AMD's MI355X and MI300X accelerators, alongside managed Kubernetes and Slurm orchestration and a serverless fine-tuning and inference service called Crusoe Intelligence Foundry. A second major line of business is hyperscale infrastructure leasing, in which Crusoe designs, builds, and leases entire data center campuses to large enterprise tenants; its highest-profile project is the Stargate facility in Abilene, Texas, which Crusoe developed and leased to Oracle. A third division, Crusoe Industries, acquired in 2022, manufactures data center hardware components in-house, including switchgear, electrical enclosures, and modular units branded Crusoe Spark, giving the company vertical control over its own build-out supply chain rather than relying solely on third-party contractors. As of August 2026, Crusoe announced it is building what it describes as the first nuclear-powered AI data center in partnership with Aalo Atomics, extending its energy-first model from flared gas and renewables into advanced nuclear power. The company has grown rapidly from roughly 58 employees at the time of an earlier Denver headquarters expansion to more than 1,000 full-time staff as of October 2025, and it retains its original Denver headquarters at 255 Fillmore Street while separately leasing additional Cherry Creek office space at 242 Milwaukee Street to accommodate continued local hiring. Crusoe has achieved ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certification as of February 2026, covering information security management and AI management systems respectively, and the company reports 99.5% platform uptime with 24/7 enterprise support for its cloud customers.
