Hanwha Aerospace Co., Ltd. is a South Korean aerospace and defense company headquartered in Changwon, South Korea, and a core affiliate of the Hanwha Group. Established in 1977 as Samsung Precision (later Samsung Techwin / Samsung Aerospace before joining Hanwha in 2015), it is Korea's only manufacturer of gas-turbine aircraft engines, with capabilities spanning development, production and maintenance of engines for fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The company's land systems segment produces self-propelled artillery (including the K9 howitzer), armored and infantry fighting vehicles (Redback), multiple-launch rocket and air-defense systems, expanded significantly through the 2016 acquisition of Doosan DST.
Its marine systems segment supplies electric propulsion systems and equipment for submarines and surface vessels, and the company also pursues space-launch and satellite business. Hanwha Aerospace is closely associated with collaborative-robot heritage: the cobot business that originated within Hanwha (Hanwha Techwin / Hanwha Corporation Momentum) introduced South Korea's first collaborative robots in 2017 and was spun off as Hanwha Robotics in 2023; Hanwha Aerospace's Changwon smart factory deploys these HCR cobots with digital-twin technology to monitor inventory, AGV positions, production progress and defects. Combining precision-machinery and engine manufacturing depth with defense and automation, Hanwha Aerospace operates globally across aerospace, land, marine and space domains and is publicly listed on the Korea Exchange (012450).
