XPENG has convened its humanoid suppliers as it gears up for the mass production of its robot, IRON. The company hosted its inaugural Robotics Supply Chain Partner Conference on September 22, focusing on components such as joint modules and actuators. XPENG announced that it has signed supplier designation agreements and is organizing production on its manufacturing lines, although specific supplier identities and contract details remain undisclosed.
This initiative is crucial as it addresses the broader challenge faced by humanoid developers globally: ensuring suppliers can consistently deliver high-quality components at scale and affordability. XPENG aims to commence mass production of IRON by the end of 2026, with initial commercial rollouts planned for its own stores and campuses, followed by a market launch in China and internationally in 2027.
Looking ahead, XPENG's chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, emphasized the complexity of humanoid robotics compared to the automotive sector, advocating for supplier investment and collaboration. The capabilities demonstrated by IRON, such as multilingual conversation and identity memory, align with the company's strategic focus on retail and campus applications, marking significant steps toward its long-term vision.
