Boardwalk Robotics is a Pensacola, Florida-based humanoid robotics company founded in 2017 in partnership with IHMC (Institute for Human Machine Cognition). The company develops Alex, a 19-DOF legless upper-torso humanoid robot with a 10 kg payload capacity and in-house designed actuators achieving up to 9 rad/s joint speed. Alex targets manufacturing, logistics, food service, and maintenance tasks where a stationary or mobile base is sufficient, enabling near-term commercial viability without legs.
The company acquired Foundation Robotics Labs in December 2024. Alex features 300-degree wrist range of motion and runs proprietary control software for high-speed manipulation and safe human-robot interaction.
