Wayve and Uber Launch First Supervised Autonomous Ride-Hailing Service in London

Wayve and Uber have initiated supervised autonomous rides in London, marking the first autonomous ride-hailing service in the U.K. Riders using UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort may be matched with a Wayve-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E, featuring a licensed driver during the initial phase. This service will be available across London, excluding airports.

The introduction of this service is significant as it represents a major step in integrating autonomous driving technology into urban transportation. Wayve's AI Driver, which has been trained on London roads since 2018, aims to enhance the city's existing transport network. Over 140,000 London users have opted in to increase their chances of being matched with a Wayve vehicle, showcasing public interest in this innovative service.

Looking ahead, Wayve and Uber plan to expand their partnership to include Wayve-powered vehicles in 12 markets, with additional deployments, such as Nissan Leaf vehicles in Tokyo, expected later this year. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
