Plugless Power Inc. is a US-based developer of wireless inductive charging systems for electric vehicles, incorporated in Houston, Texas. The company traces its origins to Evatran Group, Inc., which began development of the Plugless Power system in 2009 in Richmond, Virginia. In December 2020, Plugless Power Inc. acquired Evatran's entire wireless inductive charging patent portfolio.
The Plugless system delivers Level 2 hands-free EV charging via electromagnetic induction at 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW, with no physical cable connection required. The first system was sold to Google in 2011 for employee use at the Mountain View campus, and consumer sales commenced in 2014. Supported vehicles have included the Tesla Model S, BMW i3, Nissan LEAF, and Chevrolet Volt.
Plugless holds the record as the first wireless EV charger to reach 1 million cumulative charge hours. Trial partners have included Google, Duke Energy, Hertz, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Argonne National Laboratory. The company also applies its wireless power transfer technology to autonomous vehicle charging, fleet mobility, and drone applications.
