"Democratize Autonomy"
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Ford subsidiary founded 2023; about 550 ex-Argo AI engineers build hands-free Level 3 driver assist for Ford vehicles.
Latitude AI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, established in March 2023 and headquartered in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the former Argo AI offices. The company also runs engineering sites in Dearborn and Allen Park, Michigan, Palo Alto, California, and Greenville, South Carolina, and employs roughly 550 people, most of them former Argo AI engineers hired after Ford wound down that self-driving venture in late 2022.
The company is developing a hands-free, eyes-off SAE Level 3 automated driver-assist system, built as a full ADAS platform that combines on-vehicle autonomy software with off-vehicle machine-learning infrastructure. The system is intended to debut on Ford's upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle platform, planned for 2027. Latitude AI's engineering draws on machine learning, HD mapping, sensor and compute integration, cloud platforms, test operations, and systems-safety disciplines carried over from Argo AI's multi-year Level 4 program, applied here toward near-term Level 3 deployment rather than full self-driving.
Sammy Omari, previously Ford's executive director of ADAS Technologies, serves as CEO, with Peter Carr as chief technology officer. The company positions Level 3 deployment on mainstream Ford vehicles as an alternative to pursuing robotaxi-style Level 4 or Level 5 systems.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Next-generation hands-free, eyes-off L2+/L3 driver-assist ADAS platform built full-stack for Ford vehicles, combining on-vehicle autonomy with an off-vehicle ML ecosystem.
