FCC Expands Covered List to Include Foreign Advanced Robotics and Power Inverters

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has updated its Covered List to incorporate advanced robotic devices and foreign-produced power inverters. This decision follows assessments by an Executive Branch interagency body that identified these devices as potential threats to national security, citing risks such as supply chain vulnerabilities and cybersecurity concerns.

This update is significant as it reflects the FCC's alignment with national security agencies in addressing risks posed by foreign-made technology. The inclusion of advanced robotics and power inverters on the Covered List indicates a proactive approach to safeguarding the United States' critical infrastructure and economic stability from potential disruptions.

Moving forward, producers of these devices are encouraged to seek Conditional Approval from the Department of War or the Department of Homeland Security, which may exempt certain models from the restrictions. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The FCC's recent update to its Covered List highlights the growing intersection of technology and national security. As foreign-produced devices face increased scrutiny, companies in the robotics and power sectors must navigate compliance challenges while ensuring their products meet safety and security standards. This regulatory landscape may influence procurement strategies and investment decisions in the industry.
