Lexington, Massachusetts contract R&D firm founded 2002 by Kenan Sahin from Arthur D. Little's tech unit; runs SBIR work for the US Air Force and Navy.
TIAX LLC is a contract research and development company headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts. Kenan Sahin, a Turkish-born MIT professor, formed the company on April 4, 2002, after acquiring the assets, staff, government contracts and intellectual property of Arthur D. Little's Technology and Innovation business for approximately 16.5 million dollars. TIAX moved its headquarters from Cambridge to Lexington in 2010.
TIAX operates as a laboratory-based technology incubator, carrying early-stage inventions through prototyping and IP protection before spin-out or licensing to industry partners. It takes part in the U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and performs R&D for government clients including the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. Its functional-wearables group develops protective clothing, such as the Integrated Aircrew Ensemble built for the Air Force, drawing on clothing designers and human-factors and mechanical engineers. Its functional-coatings group works on formulated materials for hazard detection and remediation, including strippable coatings that lift contaminants from surfaces. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 certification.
TIAX previously built a sizable energy-storage practice. In 2014 it spun off that work as CAMX Power, a separate company still co-located with TIAX in Lexington.
