Chinese officials announced the completion of the main structure of the first cross-border passenger ropeway linking China and Russia. This project, which began construction in July 2019, is set to be completed by the end of 2026 and will connect Heihe in Heilongjiang Province with Blagoveshchensk in Russia.
The ropeway aims to enhance travel efficiency between the two border cities, reducing travel time to just six to eight minutes. It is expected to facilitate tourism, trade, and cross-border exchanges, significantly strengthening the economic ties between Heihe and Blagoveshchensk, which have a long history of collaboration.
Looking ahead, the remaining tasks include equipment installation and system testing before the ropeway opens to passengers. The project is designed to accommodate up to 2.6 million one-way trips annually, contributing to a comprehensive transport network that includes a highway bridge and ferry services, promoting coordinated development in the region.
