Leipzig 3D printing service bureau that builds the BFP-1 large-format pellet printer and refurbishes and services Mcor IRIS paper 3D printers.
Formicum 3D-Service GmbH is a 3D printing service company based in Leipzig, Germany. Its legal notice names Gunther Bigl as managing director and gives the commercial register entry as HRB 30023 at the Leipzig local court. The company has offered print services on Mcor Technologies paper-based full-colour printers since January 2014. Its service pages also list FDM/FFF printing in PLA, PET, nylon, nylon-carbon composite, wood-filled, copper-filled and POM materials, SLS printing of elastic TPU parts, and Asiga SAS resin printing with layers down to 5 micrometres. Stated in-house build volumes are up to 7000 x 700 x 1800 mm for FDM, 110 x 130 x 150 mm for SLS and 200 x 144 x 81 mm for SAS. Named process and material partners include Mcor Technologies, Asiga, Fiberforce, BEEVC and Taulman.
On the hardware side, Formicum sells refurbished Mcor IRIS printers, which it tests and cleans before sale and covers with a 12-month warranty from Formicum, and a CleanGreen3D CG-1 demonstration unit built in 2018. The site states that Formicum took over worldwide distribution of consumables and spare parts for Mcor and CleanGreen3D printers, sells them through its own online shop, and provides support and maintenance for these machines. Its own product is the BFP-1, a pellet-fed large-format printer built to customer specifications. Published figures include a nozzle diameter up to 4 mm, nozzle temperature up to 450 degrees Celsius, material throughput of 1 kg per hour, parts up to 100 kg, up to three heating zones, Duet control electronics, stepper or servo drives and proximity-sensor mesh bed levelling. Tested materials are ABS pellets, PETG, PLA and PP. The home page cites a 1 cubic metre build volume, while the product page says build dimensions can be adapted per customer.
Formicum also creates and repairs 3D data, builds models by hand, and offers coaching and consulting. It develops software and hardware, including VR and AR applications for devices such as HoloLens and HTC VIVE, backend systems, genetic and evolutionary algorithms, and AI-based image recognition routines.
