Amazon Introduces Alexa+ AI Assistant in India with Hindi Language Support

Amazon has launched its conversational AI assistant, Alexa+, in India, featuring support for the Hindi language. This rollout follows previous launches in countries such as the US, UK, and Germany. The assistant allows users to switch between Hindi and English mid-conversation and can handle complex tasks like grocery ordering and smart home control.

The introduction of Alexa+ is significant as it targets the vast market of over 600 million Hindi speakers in India, aiming to enhance user engagement and smart home device adoption, which has reportedly grown by 20% in the past year. The assistant is integrated with various local platforms, including Swiggy and TripAdvisor, making it more relevant to Indian users.

Looking ahead, Alexa+ will be available for free to Prime members after the early access period, while non-Prime users will incur a monthly fee. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The launch of Alexa+ in India highlights the growing importance of localized AI solutions in expanding market reach. As companies like Amazon invest in language support and regional integrations, the competitive landscape in AI-driven consumer technology is set to evolve. This move could also influence procurement strategies for smart home devices in the region.
