ErasmusMC Launches KIEM HighTech Project Replicate for Healthcare Robotics

ErasmusMC Launches KIEM HighTech Project Replicate for Healthcare Robotics

On September 1, the KIEM HighTech project Replicate commenced at ErasmusMC in Rotterdam. Key participants included Jan Benders from HAN University of Applied Sciences, Joep Selten from Ambyon, and Karenin van Grafthorst from ErasmusMC, with NLrobotics joining as a consortium partner for dissemination. The project addresses the growing labor market shortage in healthcare by automating logistical tasks, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on human interaction. Ambyon is developing the mobile care robot Ambyon One, which has already undergone initial practical testing at ErasmusMC. To ensure safe navigation among patients and staff, the robot's behavior will be practiced in a virtualized hospital environment using advanced simulation technologies. The consortium will work on an open-source 3D Gaussian Splatting workflow and a prototype sensor kit over the coming months. Results will be shared through GitLab, a journal article, and an NLrobotics event. The project is funded by Regieorgaan SIA and will run until August 31, 2027.
