Tesla's Optimus Factory in Texas Approaches Steel-Frame Completion Milestone

Tesla's Optimus factory at Giga Texas is progressing, with its steel structure nearing completion, as reported by site observer Joe Tegtmeyer. The update indicates that the steel assembly is just five column grids away from the northern perimeter beam, alongside concrete being poured on three upper floors and ongoing foundation work at the southern end.

This development is significant as it marks a step forward in Tesla's ambitions to manufacture humanoid robots, targeting a production capacity of 10 million units annually. However, substantial work remains before the factory can begin robot production, and the timeline for initial limited production is set for late 2027, according to Tegtmeyer’s observations.

Looking ahead, the construction update does not confirm the installation or testing of assembly equipment, which is crucial for production. While some reports suggest a more aggressive timeline for high-volume production in summer 2027, Tesla's official updates indicate a more cautious approach, with initial robots aimed at supporting training and development efforts in its Optimus Academy.
