Reliable Robotics, based in Mountain View, California, has secured $115 million in funding to advance its autonomous flying technology. This funding, part of an extended Series D round, has increased the startup's valuation to over $1 billion. Co-founder and CEO Robert Rose emphasized the importance of FAA certification for their autonomous flight system, which is a critical milestone for the company.
The funding includes $90 million in equity led by Nimble Partners and $25 million in debt from Silicon Valley Bank, bringing the total raised by Reliable Robotics to $380 million. The company is working on multiple certification fronts, including a continuous autopilot engagement system that manages various flight operations while the pilot remains on board. Rose anticipates certification for this system within 18 to 24 months.
Reliable Robotics is also developing a solid-state collision-avoidance radar and plans to establish Reliable Airlines, which will utilize its autonomous technology. The radar aims for certification by the end of 2027, while the airline will operate cargo flights using Cessna Caravans. The certification process is lengthy, but industry experts believe it will pave the way for broader adoption of autonomous systems in aviation.
