Microsoft Releases Out-of-Band Update for Windows 11 Addressing Hyper-V, RDS, and USB Audio Issues

Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 11 to address three issues that arose after the September 2026 security update. The problems include the inability to access shared folders on Linux virtual machines hosted on Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services (RDS) becoming unresponsive, and malfunctioning multi-channel audio on USB Audio Class 1.0 devices.

This update is significant as it aims to resolve critical functionality issues affecting users of Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2. The update is distributed as a cumulative update, ensuring that improvements from the September 8 security update are also included. However, some issues, particularly with USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, remain unresolved, prompting Microsoft to continue working on solutions.

Looking ahead, users should monitor updates from Microsoft regarding the ongoing issues with USB Audio devices, as the company has indicated that further documentation will be provided once more details are available. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The release of this out-of-band update highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining software stability in complex environments. As organizations increasingly rely on virtual machines and remote services, addressing these issues promptly is crucial for operational continuity. Stakeholders should remain vigilant about future updates and potential impacts on their systems.
