Microsoft Enhances Windows 11 Performance for 8GB Memory PCs with Up to 40% Improvement

Microsoft has optimized memory compression and data offloading mechanisms in Windows 11, allowing up to 2GB more data to be held in memory. This reduces reload times when switching between applications and browser tabs. Additionally, user operations like the Start menu and search have improved response times by prioritizing user requests over background processes.
The enhancements also include a 33% increase in Microsoft Edge launch speed and a 20% increase for Microsoft Teams. Memory usage has been reduced by approximately 900MB during multitasking tests involving Windows, Edge, and Microsoft 365 apps, with specific reductions of 360MB across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. For PCs with less than 8GB of memory, widget loading has been adjusted to only occur when in use, saving around 200MB.
Microsoft's updates require Windows 11 version 26H2 build 26300.9818 or later, with some improvements needing updates for Edge and Microsoft 365. The company continues to recommend at least 16GB of memory for high-demand tasks. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
