LimX and ZINOVA Adapt TRON 2 for Construction Site Applications

LimX Dynamics and ZINOVA have adapted the modular robot TRON 2 for construction scenarios. Their demonstrator combines locomotion, dual-arm manipulation, and the reach of an industrial arm to execute multiple steps of a scaled-down 'tilt-up' construction site. Presented on September 2, the prototype is not yet deployed on a real site but illustrates how a reconfigurable robotic platform can be tailored for specific tasks.
This adaptation is significant as it showcases the potential of TRON 2, equipped with ZINOVA's Tool Intelligence, to handle increasingly complex construction workflows. TRON 2 can be configured with bipedal legs, wheeled legs, or a fixed base, maintaining the same arms and part of the software chain while altering its mobility or positioning. The mobile configuration can reach a working height of 1.5 meters, addressing common challenges on construction sites where intervention points vary in height and alignment.
Looking ahead, the next critical step will be a full-scale trial to measure precision, cycle time, and autonomy. Without these metrics, the demonstration serves as a technical proof of concept, indicating that modular platforms are evolving into building blocks for specialized machines rather than remaining mere laboratory robots.
