Elbit Systems, based in Israel, has acquired International Submarine Engineering (ISE), a Vancouver-based company specializing in autonomous underwater systems. This acquisition, announced on Tuesday, marks Elbit's strategic expansion into the underwater autonomous systems sector, enhancing its position in the maritime domain.
The acquisition is significant as it allows Elbit to strengthen its existing capabilities in naval electronic warfare, autonomous systems, and maritime mission systems. ISE has delivered over 250 underwater vehicles to customers in more than 20 countries, which will complement Elbit's current offerings, including the Seagull unmanned surface vessel.
Looking ahead, Elbit aims to provide naval forces with a comprehensive multi-domain autonomous ecosystem, integrating UAVs, USVs, and AUVs. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication, but the acquisition aligns with Elbit's ongoing growth strategy in the maritime sector, which has seen record sales and a substantial order backlog recently.
