International Submarine Engineering Ltd. (ISE) was founded in August 1974 by Dr. James R. McFarlane and is headquartered in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. ISE designs and manufactures advanced unmanned underwater systems including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), submersibles, semi-submersibles, and mine countermeasure systems.
The company's flagship product families include the Theseus AUV — originally developed for the Canadian Department of National Defence to lay fibre-optic cable under Arctic ice — and the Explorer Class AUVs, which are modular and deployed globally for ocean survey and defense missions. ISE has delivered over 240 underwater vehicles and 400 robotic manipulators to customers in more than 20 countries. The company serves naval defense, oceanographic science, and offshore energy sectors.
ISE is also active in terrestrial robotics and provides integrated system engineering services.
