BCMPA Critiques Budget for Neglecting Manufacturing SMEs Driving UK Growth

The BCMPA has criticized the recent Budget for failing to support manufacturing SMEs that contribute to job creation and economic growth across the UK. According to the Association for Contract Manufacturing, Packing, Fulfilment & Logistics, the measures introduced by Chancellor John Healey do not adequately address the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises, including high employment costs and energy prices.
Emma Verkaik, CEO of the BCMPA, emphasized that manufacturing SMEs play a crucial role in local economies by creating jobs and supporting supply chains. However, rising costs and regulatory pressures hinder their ability to recruit and invest in new technologies, which are essential for maintaining competitiveness. The increase in the National Living Wage further exacerbates these challenges, making it harder for businesses to hire and train new employees.
The BCMPA is urging policymakers to consider the cumulative impact of their decisions on SMEs and to implement measures that alleviate energy costs and reduce administrative burdens. The Association believes that supporting these businesses is vital for fostering growth and stability in communities throughout the UK.
