"Building the new era of construction"
Munich TUM spin-off building modular AI robots for hydrodemolition, sandblasting and drilling in concrete repair; raised EUR4M pre-seed in Feb 2026.
Sitegeist GmbH is a Munich construction robotics start-up that develops easy-to-use, modular robots for hard and hazardous jobs on construction and renovation sites. It was founded in 2025 by three people with roots in robotics research at the Technical University of Munich: Dr. Lena-Marie Paetzmann, the CEO and managing director, Julian Hoffmann and Claus Carste. The company is registered at the Munich local court (HRB 304038) and based at Zielstattstrasse 13 in Munich.
Sitegeist builds a modular platform rather than single-purpose machines, and adapts it to each task with different tools. Its first use case is concrete repair: removing deteriorated concrete from existing structures such as car parks, bridges and buildings ahead of renovation, work that is usually done by hand with high-pressure water lances or breakers and exposes workers to noise, vibration and rebound. The website lists three applications. Hydrodemolition, which the company claims it performs about 10 times more efficiently than manual crews and without breaks while reducing worker exposure; sandblasting, with consistent results on corners, columns, ceilings and large surfaces; and drilling, with automated hole placement and consistent depth across materials. Custom solutions built on the same platform are offered for other site problems.
According to coverage of its funding round, the robots combine advanced sensors, AI-based decision support and adaptive control so they can handle complex geometries, including open areas, corners and columns as well as large straight surfaces, without site-specific training, and they are built to be robust enough for harsh European winters. Its Munich Startup profile mentions AI navigation, LiDAR-based monitoring and emergency shutdown features for autonomous round-the-clock work on changing sites. The company works with several German concrete renovation firms and planned further test sites in 2026; it has also appeared on an industry podcast with the Austrian contractor Swietelsky.
In February 2026 Sitegeist closed a EUR 4 million pre-seed round led by b2venture and OpenOcean, with UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators, angel investors and strategic partners from construction and robotics, to commercialise its robots and hire staff. It won the Munich Startup Special Prize at Bits & Pretzels in October 2025, its CEO was a finalist for the German Startup Awards 2026, and in September 2026 she was named a brand ambassador for the BAU 2027 trade fair.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Modular robot that removes deteriorated concrete by high-pressure water jetting for concrete repair; company claims about 10x the efficiency of manual work.
Sandblasting configuration of the Sitegeist modular platform for consistent surface preparation on corners, columns, ceilings and large surfaces.
Drilling configuration of the Sitegeist modular platform with automated hole placement and consistent drilling depth across materials.
