Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII) is the largest military shipbuilding company in the United States, headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker HII. The company was formed in March 2011 through a spin-off from Northrop Grumman and traces its shipbuilding heritage back more than 140 years. HII employs about 45,000 people and reported roughly 12.5 billion dollars in revenue for fiscal year 2025.
HII operates through three divisions: Newport News Shipbuilding, the only U.S. builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers; Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, builder of surface combatants and amphibious ships; and Mission Technologies, covering unmanned systems. Its unmanned-maritime business grew from the 2020 acquisition of Hydroid, maker of the REMUS family of unmanned underwater vehicles, including the REMUS 100 and REMUS 600 used for mine countermeasures and undersea surveillance by naval forces and research institutions. HII also makes the Seaglider autonomous underwater glider and holds a stake in Sea Machines Robotics, extending into autonomous surface-vessel software.
Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi, forming, with Newport News Shipbuilding's carrier and submarine work, the shipbuilding base HII pairs with its unmanned-systems unit.
