Hyundai Motor Group Launches Parking Robots for Residential Complexes in Korea

Hyundai Motor Group showcased its car-parking robots on Thursday, demonstrating their ability to autonomously move and rearrange vehicles in parking spaces. This pilot project, a collaboration with Hyundai WIA and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, is the first of its kind in Korea, utilizing over 50 parking spaces in a residential complex.
The significance of this technology lies in its potential to streamline parking processes and alleviate congestion. Residents can request vehicle transfers via wall-mounted pads, allowing robots to retrieve cars from designated areas and even reposition double-parked vehicles. Hyundai has integrated these robots with smart infrastructure, enabling a parking management system that can control up to 200 robots at once.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand this innovative technology to transportation hubs, commercial properties, and public facilities. The company is also exploring regulatory changes to facilitate broader adoption of parking robots, as stated by Jung Ho-geun, vice president of Hyundai Motor's Future Strategy Division, emphasizing the project's role in transforming urban environments into smart city hubs.
