Figurobot Launches FR-NIA: An 11-Inch Companion Robot with Expressive Face

Figurobot has unveiled FR-NIA, an 11-inch desktop companion robot designed to enhance AI conversations with a moving face. The robot features a silicone-covered face with moving eyes, eyebrows, and mouth, allowing it to respond based on a person's position and interaction context. The product is aimed at personal spaces like desks and bedside tables, emphasizing conversation and expression over household tasks.
The introduction of FR-NIA is significant as it represents a shift in how companion robots can engage users through emotional expression and interaction. With 10 degrees of freedom for facial control and neck movement, FR-NIA aims to create a more relatable and engaging experience. The robot's capabilities are supported by third-party language-model technology for voice interaction, while Figurobot focuses on the mechanical and electronic components.
Looking ahead, Figurobot plans to incorporate memory and relationship-development features, although these will not be available at launch. The Kickstarter campaign for FR-NIA is currently live, with early-bird pricing starting at $599 for its Lite, Pro, and Pro Max versions. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
