FEMA's $250 Million Counter-Drone Grant Applications Due November 16, 2026

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently accepting applications for $250 million in counter-drone grants as part of its Fiscal Year 2027 Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Grant Program. The deadline for submissions is November 16, 2026, at 5 p.m. Eastern, with funding available to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories.
This funding initiative aims to enhance counter-drone detection and response capabilities across the nation, particularly in preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and related events. Each state, along with Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, is guaranteed a minimum allocation of $3.325 million, while smaller U.S. territories will receive at least $760,000 each. However, there are concerns that the allocated funds may not sufficiently meet the extensive needs of approximately 20,000 public law enforcement agencies nationwide.
FEMA's program requires that only State Administrative Agencies (SAAs) can apply directly, while local agencies must go through their states. The FY2027 Notice of Funding Opportunity outlines specific requirements, including that purchasing counter-drone equipment does not automatically grant operational authority. RJ Green Research has provided a free grant application kit to assist local agencies in preparing their submissions, addressing the urgent need for effective counter-drone solutions.
