Drone Solutions International has received regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) to conduct beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) deliveries using Kite Aero’s KITE uncrewed aircraft system. This marks a significant step forward for commercial drone logistics in Zimbabwe, allowing the operator to integrate BVLOS delivery operations into its services.
The approval process took six months, involving collaboration with CAAZ and Air Traffic Services to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Kite Aero supported the application with substantial operational data from its AXIOM drone operations management system, which has recorded over 41,000 autonomous flights and 20,000 flight hours. This data provided regulators with a solid operational record, enhancing the credibility of the KITE system.
Drone Solutions plans to utilize KITE for medical and pathology logistics, facilitating air transport of critical supplies between health facilities and laboratories. This application is particularly beneficial in Zimbabwe, where transportation infrastructure can pose challenges. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
